1931
An inspiring impulse
A promoter of the philosophy, principles and values established since the origins of Empresas Polar, this Venezuelan born in Berlin, Germany, in 1931, inspired its definitive consolidation. Lorenzo Alejandro Mendoza Quintero obtained a degree in psychology from Columbia University in New York and later specialized in psychiatry at the University of Madrid. He practiced medicine at the Provincial Hospital in Madrid and at the Vargas Hospital in Caracas.
1962
Driver of modernity
A driver of diversification, he encouraged the structural changes necessary to adapt the company to the present day. Supported modernization throughout its history, incorporating the most advanced technology in the areas of production, finance and marketing.
1973
A step-by-step growth
During his tenure, he experienced, step by step, the expansion of the facilities at Planta Oriente, seeking the first place in sales, through the extension of the network of warehouses and the organization of the commercial structure. With his support, Cervecería Modelo in Maracaibo became one of the largest in the conglomerate.
1977
Social commitment in action
Sponsor of our philosophy, in which the man is the center of the activity, he advocated for the creation of an instrument to stimulate authentic values in the fields of science, arts and culture, making the Fundación Empresas Polar a reality in 1977; later he instituted the “Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury” Award, currently one of the most prestigious awards in scientific research in Venezuela. During these years, he also created the retirement and social assistance program for workers at the time of their retirement.
1978
Leadership with results
After laying the cornerstone in 1975, three years later the San Joaquín Plant was inaugurated in the state of Carabobo, the largest production center of Cervecería Polar, which would give it a definitive advantage as market leader. It was a risky bet that yielded excellent results.
1980
Changing for the future
In the 1980s, he promoted structural changes that would become the basis for the subsequent formation of Empresas Polar, Venezuela’s leading food and beverage corporation. Shortly before his death in 1987, he saw the organization enter the rice and wheat agro-industry, while expanding Cervecería Polar’s sales infrastructure in the country.
